    Ski tours

For skiers who wish to experience the other South Tyrol, away from the ski piste and après ski bars.
Ski tours in the holiday region of Gitschberg Jochtal with its spectacular ascents, wonderful views and downhill runs take care of exciting winter impressions. Switching the hooks of the ski lift against climbing irons, experiencing the deep quiet of the mountains, drawing one’s own tracks in the soft, fluffy powder snow.
Ski tours offer a large variety of experiences but good equipment, fitness, thorough planning of the tour, as well as recognising objective dangers are all part and parcel of it.  It is recommended that each ski tour be planned and carried out with the accompaniment of a local mountain guide. The avalanche report should also be studied very carefully before each tour.

    Basic equipment for ski tours:

Tour skis, tour binding, Steigfelle, (climbing iron, /crampons) ski tour shoes, length-adjustable ski poles
    Possibly Harscheisen crampons??
    Good weather-proof clothing,
    Backpack
Buried person signal unit, avalanche spade, avalanche probe, first-aid pack, sun glasses, sun block,
For tours in glacier terrain: glacier equipment (rope, climbing belt, 2 screw carbine hooks, ropes, shackles, ice pick  Schraubkarabiner, Reepschnüre, Bandschlingen,)

Rules of behaviour for ski tourers:

Ski tourers plan a tour according to tour length. Altitude meters, difficulty/gradient of slope, requirements on fitness, necessary time, ....., and inform themselves about snow conditions, avalanche situation and the weather.
Ski tourers select their tour according to the following criteria: Ski tour experience, fitness, and skiing aptitude, information about the route and planning a reserve time to be back safely before dusk.
Ski tourers plan rests, and also take rests on their tour.
Ski tourers use adequate equipment (skis, climbing irons, avalanche spade and probe, buried person signal unit) and good clothing.
Ski tourers carry the buried person signal unit straight on their body from beginning to end of the tour and do a  “signal unit check“ at the beginning of the tour.
Ski tourers choose a tempo appropriate for their level (to not exhaust themselves) and remain as a group. They allow faster tourers to pass.
Ski tourers are aware of their own responsibility in the “free ski area“ and the possible alpine dangers (avalanches) and therefore make sure that they have someone in their group who is experienced in judging the risk of avalanches.

    Danger of avalanches:

The danger of avalanches depends on several factors, such as from of the terrain, length and steepness of the slope (or the furrow), composition of snow cover, temperature, amount of fresh snow and wind.
Due to these numerous criteria of judgement, it is not pos
